Well, here we are in the cusp of another atmospheric river. Long Beach is predicted to get a total of 4-5 inches of rain. And baby, it’s cold outside. A good day to post on the blog, I don’t have any real news, so just thoughts and pictures.

We have been going to comedy clubs our whole married life. Laughter is the best medicine you know. We’ve seen lots of the kings of comedy in that time span.
Right now we are huge fans of lan Bagg. He’s a regular at the ‘comedy and magic club’ in Hermosa Beach. It opened in 1978 and we’ve been going there ever since. We saw Jerry Seinfeld there before he even had a tv show. Back then if you bought one of their t-shirts, you got in free on Tuesdays. We made good use of those, but they have discontinued that👎🏻

They have memorabilia in the cases.

This is from the ⤴️series ‘Raymond’ and this from Robin Williams’s ⤴️’Bicentennial Man’

I snuck a picture when we saw him on January 25. A definite no-no.🤫
He doesn’t do regular stand up, he cleverly talks to the crowd and gets his inspiration from the answers he gets. He remembers everything and works that into hilarious outcomes. I often get asked and even offer comments. He knows us and puts up with me raising my hand to ask him a question. It’s so much fun. He tickles my funny bone.

*he was runner up on Last Comic Standing’ in 2015. We watched every episode.

~~~~~~
Did any of you catch the sky a week ago.
looks like a lot of airplanes in the air that day
We also had a pretty sunset last week
~~~~~
my latest puzzle, only 500 pieces.

Thanks for the suggestion Tracy, about the service that sends puzzles, you send them back, and then get a new one. It’s $25 dollars a month for unlimited puzzles. I’ll see if it’s worth it by how many I can do in a month.

~~~~~
Melody being a big girl sitting in a restaurant chair. She had her first taste of salsa.
Daddy’s showing his big girl Home Depot. “We’ll spend a lot of time here, you betcha”
~~~~~

when I was looking for pictures to post, I noticed the picture of Melody at Christmas that I hadn’t used yet, was on top of the picture of Jerry at her age in my photos file. They both have the same look on their faces. It just struck me as a good thing to share.

80 years between them.

~~~~~~
We need this rain, so I guess we shouldn’t complain too much. Jerry and I don’t have to go out in it unless we want to, so we’re lucky. And we have no leaks in our 96 year old house, again, lucky.
Hope all of you are staying dry and safe if you do go out. The little news I watch, makes the roads look very dangerous.
I know it takes your time to leave comments after reading the post, so thank you for that. I still love doing this blog, so comments are icing on the cake 🎂
off to a good start?
We had a good start on New Year’s Eve at Frank and Linda’s. Their house is always so beautifully decorated at Christmas. The table was set so inviting, but we first toasted with champagne and shrimp cocktails 🥂🥂
Linda’s food never fails to disappoint,
starting with a beautiful and scrumptious salad,
then a mouth watering delicious ‘pork shank Marsala’
then finished with my pumpkin pie, all the while drinking fine wine🍷it was a fun, quiet celebration🎉 ending way before midnight. We were home tucked in bed by then.
~~~~

I hope you all are having a good start to this new year. I don’t know about you guys, but I no longer make resolutions. I don’t want to start the year out with unattainable expectations, which they usually are and never happen.

~~~~
Well, no one spotted the missing piece of that last puzzle, so I thought I’d show you where it was
now you can see it, huh? You take your chances with thrift store puzzles. It take’s awhile before I realized the pieces left, which were mostly white, won’t go in that spot, but they’re still fun to do. My next puzzle was an easy one⬇️very easy, and nostalgic, seeing all these places on our travels.
~~~~

We’ve had some pretty sunsets lately. Even a stunning rainbow, and beautiful clouds.

you can⬆️almost see the second one on the left, it had faded by the time I took the picture
a puzzle perfect picture 🙂

~~~~
and of course our little Melody is growing, learning, walking, and getting cuter.
Yeah, I can walk now. And even run when I want too.
and find new stuff I couldn’t reach before. Now what do I do with these? Maybe I’ll hide them from mommy😂
~~~~

I found a place for my new Barbie. I put a couple of her friends on the mantle with her.

   from 1999                        and 2006

I can’t wait for Melody to be old enough to have Barbie’s. This year for Christmas we got her a guitar to play with daddy.

Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has yet to come. We only have today, let us begin”

I was wondering how the tradition of greeting or saying goodbye to people like this started. It’s a long complicated story as to how the tradition started many, many years ago, ancient times in fact. A few facts from google;

And there is a proper way to say it and spell it

Anyway, I hope you all had a nice Christmas and got ‘lots of toys and goodies’ from Santa’s sleigh, saw lots of friends and family, and enjoyed a meal together, or maybe two.
We spent the day with Tony having a great ham dinner while having a good time. Amy was home from college and made the day complete.

~

You all might remember this picture from that fun day we had with Frank and Linda back in August. We all loved the movie and I looked forward to when the movie star Barbie would be in stores. I waited and waited and no mention when that would be.

Then one day at Target it finally showed up. So look what I got for Christmas——ho!ho!ho!

I’ll have to find a special place for her. I💗it.

~

I finished my Polar Express puzzle. It was a joy to put that last piece in and see the end results. I think it’s beautiful.

I’m glad you’re doing puzzles again Sharon. Like you said, finding a piece is so rewarding, just like finding a word in a crossword puzzle. But this is way more fun😁

I just got this text, thanks Linda, so funny.

so here’s to a happy, healthy, prosperous new year for each and every one of us. Hope you all have a “Happy New Year’s Eve” 🎉🥂🎉

Merry Christmas🎄

Merry Christmas everyone,

Hope you all are all set with plans to make your day merry and bright.
We’re going to Tonys for dinner. We’ll FaceTime with the rest of the family while there.

We haven’t been up to much. I’ve wanted to do a post but didn’t have much to share.

Except of course I’ve been dying to share a few pictures of our beautiful great granddaughter, Melody

I love the concept of this one🩷

so darn cute! I love that dress.

So sweet with mommy, she’ll be a year old in February. Time goes by so fast doesn’t it.

~

We had a nice thanksgiving at Tony’s. Hope you all did too.

Yummy

~

And of course I love sharing my puzzles

There was a piece missing from this one,⬆️ can you see it.

This one ⬆️ was so much fun

My current puzzle, so much blue😳and so difficult😵‍💫but I loved the movie, so it’s fun to do

we used just the top of our artificial tree this year. Makes it perfect to set on a table.

and this last one is of Jerry when he had just turned 1.

Have a great day

love you all

Cemetery tour

This Halloween we decided to finally take the local cemetery tour.

We’ve walked through the cemetery but never did the tour. When Jerry got his new Minolta camera, way back when, we went one night for him to take pictures for a class he was taking. He got some interesting shots. Tracy and Tony do you remember that? It was kind of spooky. I’d show you but they were slides he took.

There were 8 areas set up with chairs to hear local actors and volunteers portray the stories of the people buried there. It was hard to get a seat though.

One of the most prominent families in Long Beach was the Bixby’s. We sat in the chairs for that one. I read Jotham Bixby was called the father of Long Beach.

here’s a little info from Wikipedia:

There are still Bixby’s living in Long Beach. Tracy is friends with a Bixby family that lived in her neighborhood when she lived here. Do you still keep in touch Tracy?

These actors were portraying people hired by the Bixbys to work on their ranch. It was very entertaining and fun to hear their stories of life back then. She played a cook and he was in charge of livestock.

We didn’t see their graves that day. Maybe next year?

Greanlief, what an interesting name, you don’t hear that name anymore. I guess he wanted everyone to know he was ‘AT REST’ finally.
I don’t think Mittie⬆️

or Hattie ⬇️ are used anymore either

I like that they wanted everyone to know of their long life together ♥️

there was a large population of Japanese living in long beach

It’s always interesting to walk through cemeteries. On our trips we always liked to visit them, especially the historic ones. The east has some that are very old and ornate but unfortunately not always kept up. It’s sad to see all the children that died too soon, also all the soldiers that died too young.

This one caught my attention as I walked up on it. The sun was highlighting the HEL and for a second I thought it was going to have another L, meaning that’s where they thought they were going to end up.
The dates on this one confused us.

“who you gonna call”

Ghost-busters!

It was a nice outing. The weather was not too hot, there was a nice breeze, very pleasant but bittersweet.

Hope you’re all doing well and still enjoy looking at the blog. I know I can’t please everyone all the time. But maybe ‘once in awhile and now and again’ I’ll hit the mark.🎯

so stay tuned just in case

💗jilly

plus you might miss a picture of Melody

here she saw that she could reach Harley, the cat, by standing in her car seat to get onto the couch.

and then look him straight in the eye.

now isn’t that adorable?

HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY JERRY” hahaha

Our outing to Lawry’s was so much fun. It’s an hour drive to Beverly Hills and Frank drove so Jerry got to sit back and enjoy the scenery, what there was anyway. We didn’t take the freeway all the way so we saw some new territory. We passed the See’s factory, a very big place. My mouth watered.

Its a beautiful restaurant, very old school and classy.

We enjoyed a drink at the bar before going into dinner? Oops, I didn’t get Linda’s glass of wine in the picture. I tried the Rasberry lemon drop martini, YUMM

Prime rib is their specialty, as you can see. So that’s what we all got. We had shared plates of the Diamond Jim Brady cut dinner. It was exceptional. Linda and I got the halves with the bone in. She saves all her bones and makes delicious bone broth which is very good for you. So I gave her mine. We also got the glazed brussel sprouts, very yummy. The sourdough bread with real butter is something you could make a great sandwich with.

The salad is called ‘spinning bowl salad’, the waitress spins the bowl as she pours the dressing on and then serves it table-side.

The prime rib is also carved and served table-side. Pretty cool.
That’s a lot of meat, if it wasn’t cut in half it would probably take up the whole plate. Jerry and I we’re celebrating so we were brought a complimentary piece of English Trifle which we all tasted and enjoyed.

Then we ordered dessert 😋

Crème brûlée and a piece of a Dark fantasy chocolate cake that we all dug our spoons into YUMMY 😋 Oh and I ordered an espresso martini YUMMY

We probably won’t eat for a week. It’s salads tonight.

Jerry decided he wanted to spend his birthday lounging all day – so that’s what he did and is still doing. And I stayed in my pajamas all day putting the blog post together.

I love you Jerry. These 61 years seems like they flew by until we start talking about all our adventures and seeing our growing family. We’ve had so many wonderful memories and experiences, too numerous to mention. Who knows what’s next, but I’m looking forward to it.

stay tuned and I’ll share it with you

The Broad

I wasn’t quite sure of what exhibits we would see, but pretty sure we would see Andy Warhol
The famous soup can. It’s usually Tomato you see, but here it’s Manhattan Clam Chowder, my all time favorite. I add a few more diced cooked potatoes though. Yes, I still eat Campbell’s soup. Don’t you?

⬆️Roy Lichtenstein’s work reminded me of one of ‘Ted’s creations ‘Bob’. You may remember him from the posts from Reno.⬇️ Was this your inspiration Ted?

another Andy Warhol exhibit ⬇️

Looks a little similar to the the others, but maybe isn’t?

This was an interesting and a fun piece that we didn’t expect

This was an exhibit, ‘Yayoi Kusamas’ Infinity mirror room’ that the line was so long and we didn’t know what it was, so didn’t want to wait to go in. But reading about it now I wish we would have waited because we will never go back there, and it looks and sounds wonderful. Now they have timed entries and a 60 second instead of a 45 second time inside. You can see lot’s about it online.

Oh, I forgot to mention we had a marvelous lunch at an Italian restaurant between the library and the Broad. I forget our entree but these were the best deserts we’ve ever had.

Especially the chocolate soufflé. OMG❤️

and of course I can’t complete a post without our 9 month old great’granddaughter🩷💗💕

Wha a cutie pie🩷and spitting image of Hannah

we celebrated our 61rst wedding anniversary today at Lawreys restaurant in Beverly Hills

Tracy made this and sent it to us💗💗💗

and tomorrow we celebrate Jerry’s 80th birthday, who knows where that will be?

so stay tuned

🩷 jilly and jerry

A while back we went to the Richard J. Riordran Los Angeles Central Library with Frank and Linda. It’t fun to go with them when it’s something we all want to see and do, and it’s nice that Frank drives too🙂 It was the first time for us to visit and the first time for them to visit the rebuilt library. We didn’t see everything, and I didn’t get good pictures of all that we saw, so I used a few from their website.

I don’t follow politics so I knew little about his time in office. From what I have read after choosing to post this, his legacy is mixed. It seems his handling of the Rampart scandal is one of his worst moments, and I do remember that,

“Riordan was praised for his leadership during turbulent times in Angeleno history, but his tenure was also defined by strife. He was in charge during the LAPD’s notorious Rampart Division scandal, where dozens of cops were embroiled in a massive bribery and shakedown scheme”.

but sometimes good outweighs bad in certain situations in my book. He’s still remembered for leaving L.A. a better city for all he accomplished.

Jerry and Frank rested as Linda and I took pictures of the beautiful grounds.

One of the money resources to rebuild the library and keep much of the original building, was to sell airspace to developers to build skyscrapers, you can see some here. That wasn’t a popular decision.
the directory room seemed out of place with its modern theme.
There are eight levels.

First we went down, on the longest escalator I’ve ever seen. I loved those light fixtures, there was one on each level,

then we went back up on that 4 level escalator.

Some of those beams on the right were 4levels huge

The chandeliers were artistically intriguing and confusing at the same time.

Jerry looks so small in this room. We got the elevator to go to the upper levels.

Not your typical library.

I loved the colors in the children’s section. I got the picture below from the website. It looks like so much fun to be reading so comfortably, for a kid anyway.

We also went to the Broad Museum that day. I have a few pictures of that to share next time.

so stay tuned for some modern art😵‍💫🤔😳🫣🫢

P.S. this is mainly to Ted,

On my latest puzzle I couldn’t do the outside until I did most of the inside, backwards of what I always do. Ted has challenged me to do a puzzle that way, and I had no choice on this one. Putting together a totally white border would’ve been painful. I started trying to do just the middle pumpkin, but there was so much orange it got confusing. So I did most of the orange pieces first. SO I DID IT TED‼️

here comes trouble

“hi there all of you , look what I can do now”

“it won’t be long before I can walk”

“oh, the places I will go and the things I can discover”

“what’cha think about that mommy”

“just kidding mommy” 🥰

~

“oh, I think I can handle you melody” 😘

“I know you can mommy”😍

I see a strong resemblance, what do you guys think?

stay tuned, the proud great grandma, a.k.a ‘gigi’, will occasionally be sharing pictures of melody 🎶 this story has just begun🙂

Just for fun

While looking for the pictures of melody to post, I found some pictures I had planned to post and never did, so here they are, just for fun.

Midas by my 4th of July flowers

The heavy rain we had produced some really amazing wildflowers in the front yard. And they have lasted so long.

if anyone wants seeds for next year let me know. I’ll be pulling them up soon.

an interesting spiderweb in the back yard. Never saw a spider in it.

This one looked neat after the sprinklers went off. It looks like suspended raindrops.

my orange brandy rose put on one yellow bloom several times this year. That’s never happened before. It also produced a totally different petal of a different color⬇️

Almost like a peony

when we came out of the doctors office last week.

after having lunch one day, we encountered these two amazing restored broncos parked near our little 1989 Bronco ll. The one on the right is from 1963, not sure about the other one. We waited awhile to talk but the people never came out.

we’ve had so many butterflies this year. I captured three at one time in this photo

I liked this picture I took of Tony taking a picture while Amy was taking a picture. We had just see the movie ‘Strays’. It was horrible and disgusting.
This was a really fun puzzle to put together.
I didn’t include this picture on the Vegas posts, but I couldn’t resist to share this irresistible desert we had at the Vanderpump restaurant in this ‘just for fun post’. Notice the the edible gold leaf on top?
It’s beignets of New Orleans fame filled with crème brûlée. OMG

the sunset was beautiful last night.

Hope you enjoyed these random pictures. I love taking them and then sharing them.
thanks for tagging along
