we made it home

without a drop of rain, and no traffic!  unlike yesterday’s downpour. we would have been in the thick of it.

i’m so glad we got to see cher for maybe the last time. her show was so entertaining. she sang so many of her old songs, the ones i used to listen to day after day, hour after hour. huh tracy?

dscn1710

i have quite a collection of her albums. notice in the next picture they used one of her album covers for the poster

dscn1619

i wore my classic 1990 ‘heart of stone’ tour tshirt

dscn1620

WOW

dscn1592

she made a grand entrance

dscn1604

the show was very theatrical

dscn1612

and the fans were plenty

i took a few pictures and then just put the camera away. i was in the moment of joy zone.

so our plans for thursday were to see the mob museum and the nevada museum of art. we also wanted to see the remaining neon light signs on the strip lit up at night. there are 9 left. we did go to the neon museum, where we found that out. we got a really cool guide. he was a nevada native with a masters in art, also a college professor. he knew all about the history of the signs. he grew up with them.

stay tuned for pictures of that

On our way

We  just left Las Vegas after checking the weather. We had another day planned, but didn’t want Jerry to have to drive in the rain tomorrow. Long Beach may get 3 inches.

We’ve had a great time as usual and we got to  see Cher.  She was fabulous and the show was fantastic. I was jumping in my seat, standing and cheering, and  clapping so hard my hands hurt. I even cried when she sang” I Got You Babe”while a video of Sonny sang his parts.

I was going to add some pictures but, can’t figure out how to get them into the blog on this tablet.  I will do it when we get home.

Stay tuned

belliago conservatory

a las vegas blog would not be complete with out some pictures of the conservatory.so this morning we got on the monorail shuttle between the monte carlo and belliago. it only took a few minutes. i’m glad we did because we did get a lot of walking in the hotel.

jerry’s taking a nap, and i knew it wouldn’t take long to post the pictures, so here are a few of the conservatory. it never ceases to bring me joy.

the theme in the conservatory is the chinese new year, the year of the rooster. i wonder if your parents know about it being there thuy.  they would probably like it

i was taking the pictures out the dirty front window while driving so they aren’t great, but we don’t get to see these at home usually so i included them here. jerry saw this in his rear view mirror and said i should go to the back window.

dscn1472

and this is what i saw out the back window.

one more time

well we’re off again to you guessed it, las vegas. we have so much fun there, we are going to spend valentines day at the monte carlo, a new hotel for us. and we will go to a concert and see, no other than my favorite performer, ‘cher‘. and on valentines day to boot.  i’ve lost count of how many times we have gotten to see her and sonny. everytime has been fantastic. we’ve been watching the old sonny and cher show on get tv.

i’m not sure if i’ll do a blog, because what happens in vegas is supposed to stay in vegas, don’t ya know.

I wanted to  let you know that Jessie has  recovered nicely from  her  recent heart surgery and  getting  back to her daily routine. Like  going to  Phil traini’s restaurant  here in the neighborhood.

dscn1437

We  join her and  her next  door  neighbor Dick quite often.  They go every monday, wendnesday and friday. we occasionally go on wednesdays. we have a hoot with them.

dick and jessie have been neighbors and friends for over 50 years.

dscn1445

dscn1442

dick walks jessie’s dog, wendy, everyday for her. he does a hundred other things for her also. and vice versa.

one thing wendy likes is carrots. so everyday he’s brings out a few and she jumps as he throws them to her.

dscn1438

dscn1444

so glad you are better jessie. we’ll see you at phil’s place when we get home.

we’ll see you too midas. watch out for those squirrels.

dscn1295

stay tuned, just in case.

the endeavor shuttle flying over long beach sept.21, 2012.

your first look at the endeavor is amazing.

dscn1375

there are over 20,000 tiles on the bottom of the shuttle. they are all different sizes and shapes. my picture wasn’t clear enough to see they are all numbered.

dscn1378

they have photos of every mission. from the first.

dscn1384

to the last.

Science center

hi everyone,

it’s been awhile since i’ve posted a new page in our blog. so here goes.

i hope you all had a very nice Christmas. we did as we got together, the few that we have now, at tony’s house. hannah couldn’t make it, but jessica was down from oregon and joined us. we had a good time. the girls opened their presents and thuy made delicious homemade chili with all the trimmings. yum.

dscn1324

we took jessica to the science center while she was here. we hadn’t been in a long time and i thought she would enjoy it. we asked our good friends and neighbors to go with us. we found out, that some 20 years ago while at the science center, they had decided to stay in california. they were all set to go to oklahoma, but decided california might be a better state to settle in. boy are we glad.

we all got in the coach and headed to the science center. it was a beautiful day. no rain.

dscn1331

and of course we always stop for starbucks.

dscn1332

we went to the imax first. we saw the movie ‘a beautiful planet’ about the space station and what it sees of the earth from space. it was absolutely  fascinating. we all enjoyed it.

dscn1335

dscn1334

there were lots of photo opportunities.

we had some fun before going to the ‘endeavor exibit’.

dscn1364

dscn1365

the science center is a wonderful place for kids and adults alike. we had a lot of fun. the food was really good too. we were looking forward to seeing the space shuttle endeavor. we had watched it fly over long beach as it came in to los angeles.

stay tuned for the endeavor

this is for jessie sparks

i wanted to tell jessie, our neighbor, to get well soon. she recently had a hospital stay for some heart issues. but she’s doing well and is home and resting. i thought some of you might join us and say a little prayer for her quick recovery. we want her to be able to go out to dinner soon. (and many other reason too)

jessie, you probably didn’t get out to see the sunset saturday night. it was beautiful. i took a few pictures and thought the blog would be a good way to show you. maybe a few others might like to see the sunset in case you missed it.

they are from our front porch.

it started out beautiful, got spectacular, and then it was gone.

remember these?

if you saw the last blog from las vegas, you might remember this picture.

dscn0326

i forgot to follow up and find about them. well, we found out about them at the nevada museum. we saw the sign while driving to las vegas but but couldn’t figure out were the seven ‘magic’ moutains were. we were looking for seven real mountains.

dscn0635

dscn0637

dscn0640

dscn0638

the papers in the middle are all the permits he had to get.

so now we know what they are doing out there. i’m sure you can find out more now if you want too. it’s a very interesting story how he got them there.

this was a draft i started and forgot to post it.

i have something to add to it now. we stopped at the seven magic mountains on the way home. you can walk right up to them. from the highway they look like they are in a straight line but they’re not.

dscn1153

dscn1161

dscn1160

this one was my favorite

driving home, we wondered who was in this trio of cars. they stayed together for as long as we could see them.

dscn1171

and these things are still incredible looking to me. the ground is covered with some kind of stuff too.

dscn1173

so that’s it for now. we’re not sure when our next trip will be. we want to go to north dakota to see tracy, but not sure when that might be.

we’ll be celebrating our 54th anniversary and jerry’s 73rd birthday in bulleton at the ‘hitching post’ for a few days. no blog posts this time.

but stay tuned ’til the next adventure………………

love, jerryandjilly
