We tried another Airbnb in Portland, one we had booked in advance before we left home. After the first one, we were now apprehensive about this one. It looked cute online, but it was much, much smaller than it looked on the website. The price wasn’t much lower than a hotel either. So we think we’ll stick to hotels from now on. Everything is at your fingertips, you don’t have to drive around. The record player was a nice touch, but there were no Cher albums.

We went from this at the ⬇️Oregon Garden resort to⬆️that.

We met with Jessica and Carter the next morning. They took us to their favorite donut shop, Pips. It draws a big crowd, so there was a long line when we got there, a good sign right? It was totally worth the wait. They were hot, made fresh delicious donuts, some with unusual flavors like rhurbarb? I favored the cinnamon sugar.

We had plans to go to the International Rose Test Garden afterwards. This is where I first saw the ‘Distant Drums’ rose back in 2010. I fell in love with it and just had to have one.

It wasn’t easy finding one though. This was before every business had a website so I had to make phone calls to every nursery in and around Long Beach, but no one had that rose and couldn’t even order one. Time passed and I finally found a nursery in Pasadena that could order one. Then the wait until we got the call come get it.

The colors it possesses are hues of bronze, pink, orange and sometimes purple

My brother Ted loved this rose. Never touching, never even smelling it, just from the emails I sent and blog posts he looked at.
Just as he loved Midas🐈⬛ never holding, petting, or hearing him purr. Again, only seeing the photos in emails and he especially loved the posts of Midas.

Now back to the gardens:

here’s one of the roses they thought they might like for their yard

so many beautiful roses but my photos unfortunately couldn’t capture that beauty

I guess that’s enough roses for one day for you guys. I could go on and on but you get the point, I love roses, I love those little ones below. What do you love? Tell me in your comments, which I love getting. All of you bless me in a special way with your words.

oh dear, what is that guilty look for girls?
stay tuned for the video, I hopefully will figure out 🤞🏻

Thanks for all the beautiful garden pictures, especially liked the pic of Carter and Jessica. A gorgeous day and so great you got to see the garden with them. I love the distant drum rose, too, and I can see why Jessica took to the cherry parfait rose. Both are so lovely. My favorite is still the brandy rose with the apricot petals in your garden at home. I always love to see it again and enjoy its wonderful aroma when I visit. I can see why the Portland Airbnb was a little disappointing after the resort at Oregon Gardens. Glad Pips was good and you guys enjoyed your time with Jessica and Carter. I am intrigued with the Melody and Scarlett pic. Guess we’ll find out on your next post.
The 6:46 pm comment is from me. I wasn’t able to add my name for some reason I don’t know. Just glad I was able to comment. Love, Celia
Lovely! The roses, the people, the grandbabies – all wonderful. I’m always happy (and a bit envious) when someone gets to visit my kiddos. I’ll see what I can find out about including videos. I see WordPress has some instructions. Let’s chat about it soon. Love you!
Loved the photos of the roses gorgeous and those two little girls are growing fast they are so adorable..
Beautiful pictures of of all! I just learned from your blog the name of those special roses. When we take a walk and happen to see them, we’d stop and smell the tender, deep, sweet and warm aroma. We always say mom’s garden has this kind. The name Distant Drum doesn’t seem to match their beauty and fragrance. Tony is a big fan of donuts, I hope the shop will still be there when we have a chance to visit Tracy’s kids and grandchildren! Thuy
I have a picture of some flowers you once gave me – I think they are the Distant Drum (I couldn’t include the pix here), but their fragrance was wonderful. I loved the post and all the flowers, babies, grandkids and you guys. Love you, Sharon
Favorite picture = DONUTS!! The kiddos are great and all, but the looks on their faces make me feel anxiety and a bit of fear LOL. Glad you enjoyed the rose garden. Did you see Ketchup and Mustard??
Hi! Love the rose garden, I saw one with Nikki in Washington and smelled a lof of them. My favorite was one that said it had some citrus hints. I think it was yellow. Also jealous of those donuts 😛 Melody and Scarlett are so cute omg 🥹🥹
Oops I forgot to sign in, the last comment was from me! -Amy ❤
Your backyard is as beautiful to me as those pictures. I have such admiration of your gardening skills. I envy your travels and at the same time feel a kinship with them through your marvelous blogs.
