we did some shopping before leaving walmart. we haven’t done a lot of cooking yet. we’re eating sandwich’s, soup, and salads. jerry is going to cook salmon tonight.
it seemed like it was long because there was not a lot to look at. i don’t want to say it was boring but it kinda was. i tried to catch a few pictures, but its hard when the coach is on a freeway.

another castle

jerry saw a man laughing as he passed us, so he pulled over to look. the sewer hose had come out and was dragging on the ground. jerry said it was probably bouncing all over the place by the looks of it. i cant believe someone hadn’t gestured to us to look. and it’s ironic because he had just been looking at them in walmart and wondering if he should buy a new one. well, now he has to.

jerry and i had driven through spearfish on one of first trips to mt. rushmore. we fell in love with it. we happened to go to a garage sale and started talking to the people. it turned out they were from long beach. small world huh. they told us how much they loved it there, except for the snow. we’ve always wanted to visit here again, and can’t wait to get started. but first i have to wake up jerry.

so stay tuned

You make my day! I like how you bring the ordinary exchanges to life. You have a talent for meeting people and being so present with them and introducing them to us. I like traveling with you. Enjoy that salmon!
“it’s ironic because he had just been looking at them in walmart and wondering if he should buy a new one. well, now he has to.” it is very nice when you don’t have to wonder any longer…. I am very clad you are having a good trip.

Thanks for the pictures. It’s good to hear about all the small towns and places that are a part of making America a great country. – Love you, Sharon
those photos remind me of the drive to Prescott, AZ where my parents retired to. Prescott itself is beautiful, but most of the drive is desert. When you finally start the climb up the hill on Hwy 89, you get to the tiny town of Yarnell, AZ. One of the first businesses you see is a taxidermist with a sign out front advertising “brand new dead things”. I always got a kick out of that.
Can’t wait for your next post. Keep ’em coming!

I found the images you captured on your long drive very interesting, especially the red rock with white cap reaching towards heaven, a majestic creation. I liked Devils Gate, easy to see why so named. At a distance, but liked this castle, too. South Dakota inviting so far. Hope you are enjoying Spearfish, which I know is a unique small town. Can’t wait to hear about your day. So romantic to share a lovely salmon repast. Bon appetit. Celia
It’s fascinating to think about how those natural rock formations may have been created and how long it took. Or maybe it was E.T.
One often thinks of travel in terms of what the trip does for the travelers, but in the case of Jilly and Jerry, Frank and I also marvel at what they do for the people they meet and the people who see the blog. How lucky people are who meet these two on the road: they get to enjoy conversations with good and true Californians who bring joy to chance encounters. They get to tell their own peoples about the lovely couple driving the coach across country. Even minor mishaps are recounted with zest and cheer. And those of us who read get to travel along. What photos! Life is a great trip with Jilly and Jerry
