and The principal qualities considered in studying areas for park purposes are their inspirational, educational, and recreational values. National monuments, on the other hand, are areas reserved by the National Government because they contain objects of historic, prehistoric, or scientific interest.Oct 31, 2002. and now you know.
i circled the area we traveled. we’ve been to zion, bryce, and the grand staircase in past travels. cedar breaks national monument was established as a monument by theodore roosevelt in 1933. he wanted it preserved for all mankind. it’s small but beautiful and is not traveled as much as others. if you like to hike it would be the place to go. the red rock formations are breathtaking. we stopped at all four overlooks, all similar but yet different. the most striking is the sunset overlook. you can find pictures online that are much better than mine.
it was a cold and windy day

the roads are as interesting as the overlooks. they are laced with bristlecone pines, aspens, and rock formations.
our schweethearts do like traveling with us. smokey looks out for fires.
we were on a winding road out of cedar breaks and at one point jerry had to stop to let the breaks cool. so i got some rocks. the highway to our next stop, provo, was very long and uneventful. all flatland. but every town we passed had the familiar white steeples on their mormon churchs. a lot of them are all white like this one. i read they don’t use the cross at all on the church or literature, and have no windows. a synic would say that’s to hide whats going on inside???
we are going to provo canyon and bridal veil falls today. i’m not sure how far we will make it after that.

we are missing our midas
and our frequent visitors on the porch
and “the girls” of course
and of course every one back home. thank you all for being such good friends, good neighbors and good relatives. thank you for the delicious tuna salad linda, thanks kara for emergency money, and thank you all for your comments. i love them all.
i had two espresso martini’s tracy. the cracker barrel food is like a home cooked meal sharon and you get lots of it. jerry and i always share. try jillyandjerry.wordpress.com. i don’t think it’s the pictures martha, its just the format to enter them in the post. and thank you anonymous in reno, hope you like these pictures.
stay tuned for more
jilly

I remember hiking there back in my 30’s! Thanks for sharin!

What adventures you’re having!
Wish I could have tagged along 😉
Utah is so beautiful. I’ve been to Bryce and Zion, but not the other two. Hope to some day
How far did you follow the Bronco?
What a coincidink that was! Hope it brings good luck for the rest of the trip!
Missing you,
Rosemary, Diria and Cadie
Good morning mom and dad!
I’m glad and happy you’re on your trip and having a great time!
The coach and the bronco are cool, for a split second I thought they were yours. I like all pictures you took, they’re so beautiful, especially, the canyon and the pine trees.
We hope you continue to having a blast on your venture and we’re looking forward to seeing more pictures of Provo Canyon and Bridal Veil Fall!

Really good explanation of parks. You are weathered travelers and I am so happy to see you make one more trip and one more memory. I envy you getting to bring back rocks. Ray let me choose between him or a rock… he’s still here, but we could have had an environmentally friendly yard like yours full of memories by now, take that Ray! You and Jerry really rock life!!
Thanks for the update. but i am not paying for the GAS….
keep sending updates.
Ray
I got the password straightened out, finally, I think. Loving your pictures and the feeling of peace and wonder that you inspire in them and your posts. Sharon
Oooh I love that part of South Dakota near Bridal Veil Falls. And you’re getting closer! Great pictures of you two and the scenery. Dad will be able to find you wherever you go in those pink crocs! See you in 4 days!
Enjoying the pictures and the stories so much. Southern Utah is so beautiful. Love all the pine trees. The Mormon churches are beautiful in their own way. I, too, visited Zion and Bryce many moons ago. Enjoyed seeing again the crimson-colored spire shaped rock formations in Bryce. Must have been so inspiring to view them from the overlooks. Thank you. Enjoy the road ahead. Love, Celia
