it seems like the news of the coronavirus came to us very slowly at first. it didn’t hit me until we were at ikea and saw people wearing face masks that i felt uneasy. jerry and i are taking retirement pretty seriously now, so we decided to just stay in for a month and let it pass. hmmmm. we saw everyone and told them of our crazy plan.
our calendar has gotten a lot less busy since february-
my last venture out was to the ‘grocery outlet’ march 13th. people were starting to hoard by then. we got what we needed without much trouble.
saturday was my first venture out in 29 days. and the virus hasn’t passed yet. hmmmmm. how naive i was. the world is a different place now. and i wanted to see for myself. so we took a short drive along the coast from san pedro to palos verdes saturday.

not many cars but people were driving so fast

gaffey street, part of my childhood

i should have rolled down the window
our first and only stop was at a beach we went to all the time with the kids. we couldn’t go into any of the beaches or parks. even pullouts on the road were barricaded.

palm trees – hence royal palms

not many sailboats out

or people

looking at the sailboats and the cargo ship in the distance

i see a heart

if you look closely you can see the small plane (dot) that was practicing stunt maneuvers. i caught the sun behind the cloud too
its hard taking pictures from a moving vehicle. here are a few that turned out ok

wayfarers chapel.

they probably don’t mind the shelter in place order

these people either

the hills were alive with with wild mustard. here’s a sample
it was great to get out on such a nice day. we did have a order to pick-up at ralphs on the way home. as we waited for our order to come out, 15 minutes, the long line of people barely moved going in the store.
to top off the trip, we got toilet paper in our order.
stay tuned
love, jilly
oh yeah, we got burritos and tamales from diana’s to go

I think all the heart you see is your heart reflecting back to you as a heart.
it looks like a nice Sunday drive, when i was a kid my family would talk Sunday drives and i hated them i only wanted to rid my bicycle and look at girls!
You haven’t changed much have you. Except now you have to walk to see the girls. haha
Nice trip. Some of the pictures look like you wandered into a crew shooting a sci-fi movie about the end of days… all you needed was a Theremin playing mood music on a loud speaker on the hood of the coach. BTW, Ray is only allowed to see girls on his walks, and only for the purpose of practicing social distancing, unless, of course, they are wearing toilet paper rolls as jewelry. He then has my permission to lure them home for nefarious purposes of restocking our hall closet.
laughed out loud martha. when are you going to start a blog?
Everything looks so deserted. Sometimes you think if only things weren’t so crowded- have to rethink that now. But the ocean is still blue with white capped waves-and the sky is still blue with white clouds and there are hearts everywhere and that is reassuring. Thanks for sharing. Love you , Sharon
Thanks for your reassuring words Sharon. I love you too. Did you see the heart this time?
Fun tour! If we go on a drive we’ll see a lot of fields, water and brown grass. Not nearly as picturesque. But we do get great sky views out on the prairie.
Thanks Tracy, hope you liked the beach scenes.
I’m glad you guys got to leave the house and have a nice drive. I don’t think there’s any risk of getting the virus from driving with your windows open. I think I’ll drive down to Laguna Beach this weekend. Is that a different Diana’s location than when we were kids? I thought it had a parking lot in front of it. ?? I remember the Chile Verde Pork and Mexican Sweet Breads. Yum!
It’s the same one. You did love picking out the bread from over a dozen varieties.
Loved seeing the photos with the blue skies and the flowers in your yard. It brightened my day. Normally I just quietly read these and enjoy them but thought I would say hello this time.
Hi there. Thanks for the comment Sandy. I’m glad you enjoy the blog. I didn’t know that you were still following it. ☺️ BTW – I love your haircut.
