here’s the rest of the story~
i love my cherry tree so much, i wanted to share this story with you. i had so much fun with it and i owe it all to frank, our good friend, neighbor and college professor. he’s still teaching, online for now, but will retire in a few months.
recently, i had come across this essay written by Hugh Gallagher in 1990. an accomplished writer now, had written this application essay for getting into college. as a lark i think. it got published. but that is another story in of itself. check him out.
here is the essay he wrote that i thought was hysterical. i mentioned it to frank and linda and they had not heard of it. but frank thought it was funny too and thought he might use it in his class somehow.
if you can’t read this here, check it out online:

one night we came home and the paper below was on the door. there was a note on it saying since i was not in class that day, haha, i could do it at home. i emailed frank back saying “it will take me more than 30 minutes”. haha.
he had used it as an assignment that day in class, and probably gave me the paper as a lark.
i took the challenge. even though quitting high school early, i don’t think i had ever done a diagnostic essay before. maybe not even a regular essay. a book report maybe? like i said i had a lot of fun with it and this is what i came up with. i got an A. an A+ after i added that last line.

well, i am now growing a cherry blossom tree
i owe it all to frank, thanks. you inspired me exponentially. (did i use that right).
i told you this was a long story.
stay tuned for anything

Mistress of blooms, world renowned cheese cake maker, blogger extraordinaire- your essay places you in yet a new category, that of satirical essayist and soon to be master of our hearts. Bravo, Jilly. I love you and proud to be your cousin.
Totally cool, out of site, groovy! I’ll sent you an autographed copy of my prize winning book on trite and mundane saying. (I did go to college… my majors were art and home economics!)
martha and paula, thank you for your approving comments.i put myself outthere. i’m very proud and happy to have such people in my life.
Wow, wonderful essay. It brought tears to my eyes to see your talents “blossom” even more. I, too, am very proud of you. You have given me a love for pink cherry trees also. You brought a little light and love to our mole like stuck-in-the house lives these days. By the way, I love the picture of Frank – he looks like a guy we would all like to know. – Sharon
Thank you too Sharon. Being appreciated is very comforting. Frank is the salt of the earth. You’ve all seen how much fun we have with him and Linda. Their credentials are a arm and legs worth. ❤️
Hi Mom, you did a great job on that essay! It was fun (and not hard) to imagine you in that role. I have always admired your ability to create beautiful flower arrangements. I think Frank should give you another assignment – you’ve obviously got writing skills, too!! 🙂
Thanks Tony. Where do you think you got all of your skills. It wasn’t from dad. 😁
But no more assignments. Frank is retiring
Hi Jilly,
i just got Marty to read your part of this to me. I am clad I did because I would of missed out on you lovely hummer and ability to write and plant flower…
Thanks Ray.. As you are the reason I started the blog, I look forward to your comments. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t even be doing it. 💕
