the chicken coop

iv’e read that home raised chickens are quite popular in california now. we actually have a neighbor, rosemary, a couple of doors down, that raises chickens. she’s brought us their beautiful, delicious pastel colored eggs before.

this time we joyfully gathered our own eggs. she would be gone a few days, so jerry got to take care of her chickens. she has provided a very nice home for them. they are happy and safe. they have a coop where they sleep and lay eggs.

they have room to run around in a pen and then can be let out to roam the yard. of course jerry did not let them out.

she has made it very easy to get to the fresh laid eggs. we used to hear one of her more vocal hens cackle as she would lay an egg. it was always a fun sound to hear. we’d say she’s laid another egg. i’ve forgotten her name now.

let’s see what’s in here.

our bounty for a few days of caring for her chickens. thanks rosemary,  we’ll watch your chickens anytime. and thank you again for yet another fun filled holiday dinner. i forgot my camera so i have no pictures. thanks for the long island iced tea dick. did you know the acronym for that is LIIT. get it? haha.

jerry is dr. doolittle of the neighborhood. he makes friends with every dog that walks by. they all know him and stop to look and see if he’s on the porch. they love it when he is in the yard. he has a lot of fun with it.  he’s taken care of several dogs and cats for years. another dog has been added to his dog sitting duties. our neighbor, elisabeth, adopted a dog recently. he was a little unruly at first but she has trained him so well he’s just a big ol’ couch potato now. he likes jerry to stay and keep him company when he feeds him.

this is elisabeth with ooffa, a breed of mastif.

and of course he’s been taking good care of midas for 11 years now.

that’s all for now. stay tuned for ????????

p.s.–we spent some time with martha yesterday and she’s doing much better.

the vue is a very good name for this restaurant. i love this view of the long beach pyramid. a church steeple always makes a nice photo too. we had a very a quiet dinner with great conservation. we went back to  kara’s house and continued having a good time.

we also had a good time at our cousins lunch. we went to fuddruckers. the make your our hamburger place. you don’t cook it you just put it together after its cooked. it was also a continuation of rays 80th birthday. that was celebrated at the seal beach country club. woohoo.

it seems like i was just writing here comes 2019, and now here comes 2020.  at least i like saying “twenty twenty” better. hope we all have a happy new year. let’s all make at least one resolution and keep it. mine will be to not give ray any more mason jars!!! hahaha

i love sending christmas cards and getting christmas cards. it’s the one time of year we get personal hand written mail. and it’s still a very traditional part of christmas.

dscn6426.jpg

thank you all for the cards sent to us this year. i always like to display them. in times past, i used to fill up a door with all the beautiful cards.

don’t know what’s next, but stay tuned

Merry Christmas

well, i didn’t do much blogging last year. looking back i can’t believe it. we didn’t do any traveling, but i did want to post a lot of other things. the name of the blog is ‘see the usa’ which we didn’t do, so i guess i will have to change the title this year. we will probably keep our travels in california now. there is still a lot we haven’t seen and a lot we want to see again.

so ‘california here we come’ will be the new title.

i had cataract surgery early this month which kept me from sending out christmas cards. I was constantly putting in eye drops for weeks.  I had 4 medications that I put in 4 times a day. It was hard to focus. Yesterday was the last day.

we didn’t put up the tree or set up the polar express train this year. I did put my bottle brush trees in the living room window.

20191221_085708

and my glass trees in the dining room window.

And more bottle brush trees in the kitchen window. I’m getting quite a collection of them. They are one my favorite things of Christmas.

I couldn’t do a post without our hats. Jose came over as we were trying to figure out how to do it. It turned out good. Thanks Jose.

We’re going to Tony’s for dinner tonight and tomorrow we will go to the Queen Mary with Kara. So we will miss Chris and Jose’s evening with his family this year.

So you all have a jolly good time this Christmas.

❤️ Love jillyandjerry ❤️
