Once in awhile-now and again-this is us

 

 

there was a lot of talk years ago about this being built. it seemed like an interesting concept.using old discarded shipping containers for the buildings. one problem it has though,  it’s  downtown. who wants to be downtown at night? we decided to check it out if we could park close. we did and went in. it’s just a tourist trap. i don’t think locals would want to be there.

we ended up having dinner at a b-b-q restaurant there, thinking we would eat at ‘mon abi gabi’ the next night. we hadn’t eaten there yet.  since we left a day early, that didn’t happen, we didn’t eat at ‘mon abi gabi’. not even once this trip. i know you are all gasping right now, how on earth did that happen?   don’t let time run out for the things you want to do.

 

at the entrance of the park, there was a place for people to put padlocks on. proclaiming love or wishes for someone. i’ve read they took them off the brooklyn bridge because of the weight.they had thousands of them.

we called as soon as we got to las vegas to get our tickets. last time, they were all sold out by the time we called.

our tour guide was very knowledgeable and explained the signs so well, they almost came alive. they were all so beautiful in all their glory. the patina and rust on them gave them special colors. my camera couldn’t quite capture all the nuances

 

 

 

 

 

a lot of the signs are red and yellow. that color combination attracts attention. think mcdonald’s, shell, weinerschniteziel, and all the others that use that in their signage.

without a drop of rain, and no traffic!  unlike yesterday’s downpour. we would have been in the thick of it.

 

i’m so glad we got to see cher for maybe the last time. her show was so entertaining. she sang so many of her old songs, the ones i used to listen to day after day, hour after hour. huh tracy?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

i took a few pictures and then just put the camera away. i was in the moment of joy zone.

so our plans for thursday were to see the mob museum and the nevada museum of art. we also wanted to see the remaining neon light signs on the strip lit up at night. there are 9 left. we did go to the neon museum, where we found that out. we got a really cool guide. he was a nevada native with a masters in art, also a college professor. he knew all about the history of the signs. he grew up with them.

We  just left Las Vegas after checking the weather. We had another day planned, but didn’t want Jerry to have to drive in the rain tomorrow. Long Beach may get 3 inches.

We’ve had a great time as usual and we got to  see Cher.  She was fabulous and the show was fantastic. I was jumping in my seat, standing and cheering, and  clapping so hard my hands hurt. I even cried when she sang” I Got You Babe”while a video of Sonny sang his parts.

I was going to add some pictures but, can’t figure out how to get them into the blog on this tablet.  I will do it when we get home.

a las vegas blog would not be complete with out some pictures of the conservatory.so this morning we got on the monorail shuttle between the monte carlo and belliago. it only took a few minutes. i’m glad we did because we did get a lot of walking in the hotel.

jerry’s taking a nap, and i knew it wouldn’t take long to post the pictures, so here are a few of the conservatory. it never ceases to bring me joy.

the theme in the conservatory is the chinese new year, the year of the rooster. i wonder if your parents know about it being there thuy.  they would probably like it

i was taking the pictures out the dirty front window while driving so they aren’t great, but we don’t get to see these at home usually so i included them here. jerry saw this in his rear view mirror and said i should go to the back window.

well we’re off again to you guessed it, las vegas. we have so much fun there, we are going to spend valentines day at the monte carlo, a new hotel for us. and we will go to a concert and see, no other than my favorite performer, ‘cher‘. and on valentines day to boot.  i’ve lost count of how many times we have gotten to see her and sonny. everytime has been fantastic. we’ve been watching the old sonny and cher show on get tv.

i’m not sure if i’ll do a blog, because what happens in vegas is supposed to stay in vegas, don’t ya know.

I wanted to  let you know that Jessie has  recovered nicely from  her  recent heart surgery and  getting  back to her daily routine. Like  going to  Phil traini’s restaurant  here in the neighborhood.

We  join her and  her next  door  neighbor Dick quite often.  They go every monday, wendnesday and friday. we occasionally go on wednesdays. we have a hoot with them.

dick and jessie have been neighbors and friends for over 50 years.

dick walks jessie’s dog, wendy, everyday for her. he does a hundred other things for her also. and vice versa.

one thing wendy likes is carrots. so everyday he’s brings out a few and she jumps as he throws them to her.

 

so glad you are better jessie. we’ll see you at phil’s place when we get home.

we’ll see you too midas. watch out for those squirrels.
