remember these?

if you saw the last blog from las vegas, you might remember this picture.

dscn0326

i forgot to follow up and find about them. well, we found out about them at the nevada museum. we saw the sign while driving to las vegas but but couldn’t figure out were the seven ‘magic’ moutains were. we were looking for seven real mountains.

dscn0635

dscn0637

dscn0640

dscn0638

the papers in the middle are all the permits he had to get.

so now we know what they are doing out there. i’m sure you can find out more now if you want too. it’s a very interesting story how he got them there.

this was a draft i started and forgot to post it.

i have something to add to it now. we stopped at the seven magic mountains on the way home. you can walk right up to them. from the highway they look like they are in a straight line but they’re not.

dscn1153

dscn1161

dscn1160

this one was my favorite

driving home, we wondered who was in this trio of cars. they stayed together for as long as we could see them.

dscn1171

and these things are still incredible looking to me. the ground is covered with some kind of stuff too.

dscn1173

so that’s it for now. we’re not sure when our next trip will be. we want to go to north dakota to see tracy, but not sure when that might be.

we’ll be celebrating our 54th anniversary and jerry’s 73rd birthday in bulleton at the ‘hitching post’ for a few days. no blog posts this time.

but stay tuned ’til the next adventure………………

love, jerryandjilly

las vegas, again

we wanted to go to the neon museum but it was sold out for the day.

dscn1121

they still have so many of those old signs up in the city.

dscn1130

and then they have a lot of new architecture being built.

dscn1127

we did go back in time a little bit at  jerry’s nugget casino, in north las vegas.

dscn1107

you can’t play that machine but they do have some slot machines in one corner that pay in quarters. i had forgotten how loud that sound of coins hitting the metal tray was. they also make your hands dirty touching the coins. we didn’t win any money so we didn’t have that problem. darn.

dscn1116

i had seen an article in the la times about how good their food was in the coffee shop. and it was good. that good quality coffee shop food of the past.

their story on the menu.

dscn1110

oops, we didn’t and then saw these on the way out. darn.

dscn1113

a sign only in vegas.

dscn1136

we ate at mon ami gabi that night. we shared the skate. delicious!  espresso martini, delicious!

here’s the view from the rail on the outside patio as we ate. oops, is that the fountains in the background?

dscn1140

i had to get this picture in.

dscn1033

haha.

i think i have one more post of the drive home.

stay tuned

the trees

we left lake tahoe a little early since it was going to start snowing the next day. it was so beautiful and we had so much fun. it’s been a long time since we’ve been there.

dscn0851

so we left from the south of lake tahoe and got over to 395 on some desolate roads. but they sure were gorgeous with color.

i want to think i have a seeing eye.

we spent the night at chris flat campground on 395. we got a spot on the water, since it was almost empty. most of the campgrounds were already closed for the season. it had been a long day of driving for jerry.

dscn0818

dscn0916

we’ve been in las vegas for a few days now. it’s not to hot and it’s not cold at night yet.

i have had so much trouble with finding a wi fi spot this trip. i have a few more pictures to post but we are leaving here tomorrow so i’ll wait and do a post for those when we get home. i promise no fountain pictures ray.

thanks for staying tuned in to our travels.

love all of you, jill

good -bye ted

it always comes down to having to say good-bye. knowing we’ll be back makes it a little easier. and having one last cup of coffee and the homage starts the day off right.

dscn0688

we did our now ritual status, picking of the fortune sticks. ted’s is on top. mine in the middle and jerry’s on the bottom. i think they ring true.

dscn0690

one last picture and we’re off.

dscn0695

on the way out of ted’s neighborhood i noticed this tree. have you noticed the heart ted?

dscn0696

our plans for today are going to a animal sanctuary twenty miles notth of reno. the animal ark is a huge place that takes in rescued wild animals which will probably never be able to be released. their injuries left them unable to cope in the wild. at each enclosure, the srory how they ended up at the santuary is explained.

dscn0705

dscn0704

dscn0717

dscn0713

dscn0701

dscn0726

they even rescue turtles.

dscn0724

there were way to many animals to put in the blog. this was just a sampling.

it’s a wonderful place and we left there being inspired that there are still dedicated people in the world, doing great things for the creatures that otherwise would be dead.

now we are off to lake tahoe

stay tuned

thrift stores

dscn0668dscn0665

well i didn’t find anything for you guys, but i found a lot of stuff for myself. jerry found these in the collector corner of the salvation army. they are two of the characters from beatrice potter’s ‘peter rabbit’. a really rare find. and it made it me as happy as if he had found me a pair of diamond earings for six dollars. oh, did i say everything was half price columbus day?

dscn0682

ted was so gracious to spend four hours taking us around to trhift stores and giving me time in each one of them. ” thanks ted”     jerry is as patient with me too. “thanks jerry”

there were clouds forming when we got in the car. it’s going to get cold here now.

dscn0669

we all needed to eat after that. ted offered to use his comps for the pizza restaurant in the atlantis, so that’s where we went. we stopped by the sportsbook first to watch the horses run for awhile. no wins this time either.
there was a total wine store near the goodwill. tony had given me a gift card for my birthday. we needed some beer and i had it with me so we went in. they have shiner beer here and a few others long beach doesn’t have  i got ted a bottle of wine also.  i didn’t keep track of how much we were spending. just buying what we wanted.                                    you’re never going to belive this next picture tony.

dscn0744

we went back to teds and hung out. ted is still working on his collage. he has cut out all the fish he needs, so now he can start putting it together. i can’t wait to see the finished piece. how about you guys?

dscn0660

dscn0658

some of the pieces are very intricate

dscn0664i brought ted a rock for his collection. it was a rock we had tumbled a long time ago. it almost looks like jasper. i put it in it’s new home. second from top left. he’s getting one for christmas for that empty spot.dscn0663

ted and jerry have the ritual of having a glass of cognac on the last night we are there.

dscn0674

cheers!

we went out to the coach to get in bed and saw this amazing cloud. the moon is behind it.

dscn0675

we played a game of dominoes. i won and we went to bed.

we have to leave in the morning

stay tuned

art?

jerry is reading tonight so i thought i would do another post.

we always enjoy our visits to the nevada museum of art with ted. we’ve seen a lot of interesting exhibits. this one was, let’s say unusual.

dscn0618

recycled christmas trees

dscn0619

what do you think jerry? i don’t know, what do you think ted? i think i like it.

dscn0622

something to crochet for your washer tracy

dscn0617

this is hand blown glass

dscn0647

do you think this is the future of books ray?

dscn0634

do you know your zodiac sign? i’m the dog on the right.

dscn0632

ted and jerry are the ram. don’t do it ted. they’re watching you.

dscn0615

what do you think ted? i don’t know, what do you think jerry? i think i like it.

dscn0644

there was ‘real art’ also. i think i did a puzzle of this.

dscn0643

we went out for chinese food after the museum. the restaurant is right in teds neighborhood.

one of our items looked like it could be a work of art in the museum.

dscn0649

tomorrow we are hitting some of the great thrift stores here in reno.. we plan on spending the night in ted’s driveway again before heading out for lake tahoe tuesday. (it saves us forty dollars)

i’ll try to find you all something in the thrift store

so stay tuned.

it’s beautiful here

we are having such good weather. it’s fall in the air and the trees are starting to turn colors. i haven’t got a picture yet, but i will. are your trees turning colors yet tracy?

we’re now at our familiar keystone rv campground just a mile or two from ted. we are planning what to do while we are in the area.

dscn0609

we had breakfast at the homage which is the neatest coffee house i’ve been to.

dscn0600

ted had to check out this bicycle in the yard. it turns out it is one the owner takes to burning man. there were little lights in the handlebars.

dscn0601

later we went to the sportsbook in the atlantis casino to have a little fun betting on the ponies.  ted used his comps for beer. i don’t know how he gets them……. “thanks ted”.

oh well, it was fun.

dscn0608

later we went to the buffet. ted has comps for that too……” thanks again ted”   i’ve shown you so many pictures of all the great food and such, here’s one a little different from the others. while waiting in line for the buffet, we were there at 4:15 for a 4:30 opening, and there was a line. i took this of the staff getting their pep talk for the evening. she was probably saying “now when those hundred people come in all at once, smile no matter what happens”

dscn0606

we got a really nice waitress from  luthawaina?  named svalavania?  i think? and the food was delicious. ted said they had completely remodeled it.

ted always has new brands of beer for me to try. “thanks again ted” jerry doesn’t get to sample them anymore. sorry about your gout jerry. he drinks wine with ted and is still happy.

dscn0650

we went to the museum today. it was a local contempoary artist exibit.

is anyone looking ted? hurry take it. what do you think of my purple hair tracy?

dscn0646

stay tuned for more art?

we’re in reno, again

we left thursday morning, well, it was actually around 12:30. we wanted to miss the work traffic and we did. we took the 15 to the 395. they had just recently repaved 395 so it was smooth sailing most of the way..

dscn0568

anyone who has been in the coach knows how much it rattles and how noisy it can be while you’re driving. bad roads shake all the loose things. so on a good road we had a nice quiet ride.

most people don’t like the desert and i can understand why. you see the same old stuff for miles and miles.

dscn0562

dscn0566

but then you see something beautiful. and if you keep looking, you see it more and more.

dscn0579

dscn0569

here’s a few pictures of mono lake which is beautiful to me.

dscn0595

dscn0592

dscn0599

i took this picture at a rest rest stop. the big rig dwarfs the coach.

dscn0575

we stayed in bishop that night and drove into reno on friday. we parked in ted’s driveway for the night. we went out to diner at ted’s favorite mexican restaurant. we had a nice time and turned in early.

stayed tuned for more.
