it wasn’t easy getting out to that field. we had to take dirt roads all the way. then it turns out the red field was not a red field. it was a bunch of red plastic fences put in such a way that from a distance it looked solid red. (didn’t it?) I looked it up online and someone is working on erosion. which is making his neighbors angry.
but on those dirt roads we found another interesting thing. acres and acres of very old cans and bottles.
back on 395 we made another stop in lone pine. home of mt. whitney and the Alabama hills.
we had never went very far back into the hills. this is where a lot of the old westerns were filmed. this was one of ted’s favorite places to take photos back in the good old days. I liked roaming around here and taking photos here too. the rocks are everywhere. too bad I couldn’t take any of these home.
we got back on 395 headed to june lake.
stay tuned.

This looks like fun, what were all the tine cans doing out there?
You two find the most interesting stuff! Please bring us some rocks if you find an area where you can take them. I’ll reimburse you for the extra gas for the extra load.
Hugs P&N
we couldn’t figure that out ray. but there was tons of them.
rocks, you want rocks. of course i’ll bring you rocks. there are lots of places you can take them. start making a spot ray.
oh, that comment was from norm and paula, not Martha. ok, start making a spot norm. of course we can bring you some too ray.
Love all the desert pictures, beautiful, and the heart of old bottles. The shot of the red fences, at first looks like the monkeys are people looking out.
thanks celia, hearts are everywhere.
Did you take the coin or leave it there? There must be a story behind those cans somewhere. Serendipitous find, that canned heart!
I think i’ve seen those scenes in many of the westerns Daryl and I watch. I do like the rock formations. It’s mind-boggling to think about the time and weather that has sculpted the landscape!
yes i took the coin. somebody check out those cans.
the rocks are great to photograph. did you see the elephant in one of them?
