we got in so late to prince Rupert, we just followed some of the motorhomes to the wal mart parking lot. when we got up we realized there was not much of interest to us there. we drove around in a not so charming city. it’s more industrial and dirty. we went into the small town and I did the post about the sand castles. we found a local restaurant, dolly’s, to try the halibut, which the town is famous for. we had fish and chips and it was very good.
we went into the gift store across the street and had fun looking at all the goodies, which I am not buying on this trip.
we found out we could get in line that night for the next days trip, so we spent the night at the ferry terminal. we always like those free options. but we were woke up at 2:00am to move to another line. the ferry was late so we waited another 2 hours to board.
we haven’t been eating big breakfasts very often this trip. no cracker barrels to get our ‘eggs in a basket’. but jerry couldn’t resist the biscuits and gravy with two eggs on top.
the pictures weren’t as interesting on this voyage. the ship was 5o years old, so it creaked and moaned a lot. as to the first being first class this was coach. but we sure slept good. we’ll go back on this ship too.
we arrived early in Juneau yesterday.it was cold when we saw mendenhall glacier and the most important thing, our 48th capitol. then it started raining when we drove into town. so we decided to wait until today to do that. then I deleted the glacier and capitol pictures this morning by mistake. damn computers. so were going back today to get some more. it’s sunny today so maybe the pictures will be better anyway. the glacier is absolutely amazing. wow.
so stay tuned for that.

I can understand why you though of Marty when you saw that card.
This is real a great looking trip, keep us updated and have fun.
When I was there in 1994 or 5, I forget which, the taxi driver that was assigned asked me if there was anything I would like to see on the way to the airport. I told her I was disappointed that I hadn’t been able to see the glacier. So she took me there. I wasn’t much impressed. But later, the plane flew over it and I could see how really BIG it was. That’s the best way to see it and I’m glad I got to see SOME of Alaska that year. Most every day was overcast and gray. I guess it was cold, also, but I didn’t have that experience from the hospital bed. Glad you’re having such a good time. Love, Kara
I LOVED the pictures of the ferry at night while you waited and then boarded. They looked like a film noir movie set about either spies or a romantic comedy.
We’ll keep on looking for your posts while we’re on the road this week. Going to see a great grandson get born!… or go home because we went too early… no matter, it will be the first time both my sons are together in years and all the grandkids- I’m a happy woman right now! Thanks for the birthday card. I love it.
Loving the pictures and the story. Keep blogging. Sharon
good luck on being in the right place at the right time Martha. I expect a picture.
i’ll do that Sharon, because it’s so much fun. thanks for all your comments.
one of the cousins isn’t commenting. would you call her and tell her it’s not that hard.
kara, I remember your story about being in the hospital your whole 5 days here.
we won’t be going over the glaciers because of the rain. what we saw was spectacular. we walked all over and saw it from every view, twice.
I thought that card was perfect for Martha.
have fun on your trip up north and with the family all together. hope all goes well.
Mom, try looking in your Recycle Bin for the deleted pictures. If you don’t see it on your desktop, here’s a link on how to show it:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-recycle-bin#1TC=windows-7
If you find them, select them and then right click and you’ll see a Restore option.
thanks tony, that would be great if I can do that.
