we had another nice campground in gurneville Tuesday. kara’s daughter lives there, and we were taking some things kara had sent to her.
eva, kara’s daughter picked us up at the campground and gave us a tour of her town. it’s a nice place with everything you could want within reach. her husband, craig, met us at a winery they belong to and we sampled some wines. having a great time. the bartender was a hoot.
we drove onto another winery to see craig’s crop of bio dynamically grown indigo plants. as I understand it, the indigo color is all done with chemicals now. he’s trying to bring back doing it naturally. and using organic cotton to dye. it sounds like it’s the future.
and then drove back to their beautiful home up in the redwoods. it’s a custom designed and built home done by them. and with some of their own redwood trees. and I think they had a little help now and then. actually you could say a rebuilt home. unfortunately one of their fire sprinklers went off a couple of years ago and poured water for hours and flooded everything. they had to gut it and start over. i’m sorry I didn’t get very many pictures kara. we were having so much fun and then it was dark. flash pictures didn’t look good so this is the best I got.
you can feel the love as soon as you step in. it glows.
it was dark and late after seeing all the house, and the pictures of the house were even darker. it’s a beautiful home in a beautiful setting. eva drove us back to the camp and we said our good byes.
eva retired from the fire department after 26 year of service. an engineer, one who gets to drive the truck. then fight the fire. now she teaches fire safety to the new recruits. she’s writing a book of her life as a fire fighter. and she teaches sign language. the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.

Wow! What a beautiful home in a gorgeous setting. – Sharon
you guys are related to the whole world. You will never be alone.
This is the best trip yet. I am really wishing i was with you.
keep up the good news.
Thanks so very much, both of you! I’m printing this out and will send a copy to Craig’s parents. Have a safe rest of your journey. Love, Kara
Hi All,
Wow! Frank and I agree with Ray that this trip is the best yet! Snoopy will treasure his nose more than ever. The views, fireplace, and other pics give us the feel for how diverse and joyous your interests are; and you have the skills to make the most of them. Things on the home front are stable from what we can tell: Midas comes to our door in the morning to escort us over to your place for his breakfast, where Paulette usually meets him and serves as his taster. That gorgeous gray cat had joined them and seemed to be warming up to people, but now that we closed off access to the crawl space we haven’t seen the gray cat. You have some splendid roses out front–we can’t bear to clip them quite yet. We haven’t seen Hannah yet but hope to this weekend. Greg is doing excellent work in our bathroom! Be safe, dear ones, and keep those pictures coming in!
Love,
Linda
how good to get the news linda and frank. I was hoping to get a comment from you guys. as you know I love to get comments. we’re at a starbucks right now so I could check them. we are having a great trip, and we’ve only been gone 10 days, and we already miss you.
I wish I had gotten better pictures for you. I guess we are just going to have to visit again and stay in that neat little guest cottage they have.
someday maybe we can make that happen
pictures just don’t do it justice. i’m looking forward to visiting them again. we have to see craigs crop when it matures.
Looks like you and Dad were doing more hootin’ than the bartender – you sure you weren’t making a scene? He looks like he wants you guys outta there! (ha ha) Amazing house – how does one come to live like that??
we were hootin’ but not hollerin’.
first a dream then a lot of hard work.
