we had to get up early for this tour at 5:45 am. but it was a great tour and worth it. the guide was so nice and grew up on the island. he knew great tidbits of interesting facts.
we first went to fort shafter army base. we saw the raising of the flag for the day. it was very ceremonial with a cannon salute. we got to go in one of the original buildings. it is being saved as a historical site, while a new one is being built.

next we went to the Arizona memorial. it was a short and quiet ride. everyone contemplating what the park ranger had just briefed us about. it is a cemetery. hollowed ground. be very respectful.
